$15,000
Hackathon Prize
Announced

Palo Alto, CA – April 20, 2022

Fresh off the huge raise announcement and just as a huge number of our team landed in Amsterdam for Devconnect, we also held the closing ceremony for our Gitcoin Virtual Hackathon, co-hosted by Boba, Bundlr, and Arweave.

Last month, the Boba and Bundlr teams partnered, enabling users on Boba to pay for data uploads with the native $BOBA token. Developers building on Boba Network also gained access to decentralized, permanent storage on Arweave via Bundlr.

All three teams joined forces to run this hackathon, inviting developers to explore how our three projects synergize by creating an open-source solution that allows users on Boba to easily deploy and engage with Arweave via Bundlr using BOBA tokens.

The prize would be awarded to the individual/team that produced the best approach and the most user-friendly web3 application while respecting the challenge description, goals, and criteria.

The hackathon ran for 2 weeks, featuring a kickoff ceremony and AMA with project representatives, office hours, hosted workshops, and strong developer support from all teams via Discord.

In the end, there were so many good submissions it was hard to pick just one winner! We had to come up with a solution, so we made a last minute change and decided to add a runner-up. Instead of awarding a single $15,000 prize, we wound up also awarding a second place prize of $5,000 to a very strong project.

First Prize

Our first prize went to a fun and functional project with a great, forward-thinking concept. Meme NFT, created by @w_rybakiewicz aims to rewards meme creators and audiences by tokenizing memes as NFTs.

Bundlr says this project addresses a current and future problem, since “memes are a huge part of our culture but creators are not paid for their work. Meme NFTs solves this by giving creators a tool to tokenize their meme as NFT and creating a place with on-chain voting to share their work.”

The judges said Meme NFT was a great dApp for building and engaging community, with the ability to upvote and downvote content, stream microtransactions to creators, and prove provenance as content evolves over time, all wrapped in a simple and effective UX.

Huge congratulations to @w_rybakiewicz, and we’re looking forward to further development of Meme NFT on Boba!

Runner-Up

Our next entry was just so good, we couldn’t NOT award a prize. DeCloud, created by @realsoptq presents a POC that allows users to interact with Arweave with just their BOBA wallet, powered by Bundlr Network.

DeCloud aims to provide database-alike API for developers to CURD (Create, Update, Read, Delete). To achieve that, they deployed a smart contract on the Boba Network named [ArweaveStorageManager] (V2), which acts like a storage pointer that points to the file ID stored in Arweave. They implemented full encryption to the workflow so the uploaded data can only be read by authorized wallets. Finally, based on Database API, Encryption and our ArweaveStorageManager Contract, they achieved POC for cloud drive, meaning users can create contents, sharing them to others, and possibly making profits on it.

Our judges said this DeCloud was a sophisticated project, addressing the headache of on-chain data storage costs, and positioning DeCloud to be used and useful beyond this hackathon – something other developers will want to build on.

The DeCloud team provided a host of useful resources for further research:

About Boba Network

Boba Network is an Ethereum Layer-2 scaling solution and hybrid compute platform offering lightning fast transactions and fees up to 60x less than Ethereum.

Boba’s Hybrid Compute brings the power of Web2 on-chain for the first time, allowing smart contracts to call any external Web2 API to execute complex algorithms such as machine learning classifiers, pull in real-world or enterprise data in a single atomic transaction, or sync with the latest state of a gaming engine. Leveraging off-chain compute and real-world data, developers and creators can offer an enriched experience unlike anything else on the market today.

Boba Network delivers a faster, cheaper, smarter experience for Ethereum’s next billion users.
